This past Monday was a heart-wrenching day. While we were still trying to digest the horrific news out of Las Vegas, headlines began to appear saying Tom Petty had suffered a cardiac arrest and died. Then: “Wait, not so fast,” the news headlines backtracked. “He’s still clinging to life.” Talk about a roller-coaster ride for Tom’s millions of fans. The news was official, however, by Monday night. Tom was gone at the age of 66. WAY. TOO. YOUNG.
I’m so glad I got the chance to see Tom live when he came to the Coliseum back in 2006. It was a great show, and now I’m kicking myself for not making the effort to see one of his two shows this past July at Summerfest.
Not only am I a fan of his solo music and work with the Heartbreakers, but I loved his participation in the Traveling Wilburys, with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne.
It’s difficult to name my absolute favorite Tom Petty song, but “You Got Lucky” is right up there. Thanks, Tom, for all the good moods you put me in with your music over the years.
