Kathryn’s Blog: A Fall Farm Tradition

Written by on October 18, 2018

The trees are doing their thing here in Wisconsin and when that happens, I usually make several trips to Oakwood Fruit Farm. Perfect excuse to take a short, gorgeous day trip and witness the beauty of our state! At Oakwood, they have samples of things you can ‘try before you buy’ like apples, cherries, apple cider doughnuts, and cider. For me, I love to get awesome holiday gifts from the farm. I have a lot of ‘foodies’ on my list! I was there today and just thought to give you a heads up; yes, Black Earth is closed because the bridge was really demolished with flooding, but the detour is only about 10 minutes of gorgeous hillsides! Taking Hwy. 14 west, you’ll hit the road block but you will take that right on to F then a left onto 19, then on to 78 which puts you right back on to 14 west. It all happens before you even hit the Pecks and Hecks Markets, also on the way to Oakwood. You can follow the signs for Oakwood Fruit Farm and if you just keep on Nebraska Hollow, you will drive right into it. It’s a big place with the orchards right in front of you when you park. If like caramel or fudge dipped apples they have a big cooler with a nice assortment as well.
