Jillene’s Blog: Choose Your Hard

It’s amazing how much things can change in just a short amount of time. Six months ago, I set out on a journey. This wasn’t new to me; I’ve been down this road countless times. You see, I’ve always struggled with my weight. For most of my life, I’ve been overweight. I have pictures of myself from when I was a little girl – as early as elementary school – and I remember that girl being so uncomfortable with the way she looked. Not much has changed since she’s grown up.

When I first heard of Medithin Weight Loss Clinic in Madison, I was cautiously optimistic. Their website is full of people from right here in Wisconsin who have lost a lot of weight… I’m talking 50, 100, 150 pounds! Since I wanted to lose about 80 pounds, I was excited to see so many of their clients go through a complete transformation. For so long, I’ve wanted to lose the weight – but, I didn’t want to just lose it. I want to keep it off, once and for all.

Fast forward a short six months to this week (mid-April), and I’m already down 51.8 pounds – and counting! You can see the physical changes in the picture below. More importantly to me, I feel like I’ve finally turned the page from being on a “diet” that I was sure to fail, to making a true lifestyle change. The staff of nurses at Medithin are so supportive, and their accountability was the missing piece to my weight-loss puzzle. They’ve taught me how to change my emotional eating habits, incorporate movement into my life, and live in a world where temptation is everywhere you look. I started the Medithin program right before the holidays… Halloween candy, Thanksgiving feasts, and Christmas didn’t get in the way of my success or completely throw me off track like it has in the past. I’ve learned new ways to eat and I feel satisfied with my choices! I can walk by treats in the break room at work and I don’t sulk about all the goodies I’m “missing out on” because… I don’t even want it anymore.

Honestly, I feel like a new person… and I haven’t even hit my goal yet! The coolest thing for me is not only seeing the physical changes and having to buy new clothes, but seeing a change in my mentality. I used to be very cruel to myself about what I saw in the mirror. If you’ve ever struggled with your weight, you know how it can blend into every other part of your life. With 50+ pounds and 17+ inches gone, I am… proud. I’m not – well, I’m working on – not being ashamed of the many, many excuses I’ve made over the years of how I let myself get so overweight in the first place. I am kinder to myself and I enjoy celebrating the victories that have come with the weight-loss… like, how easy it is to take the stairs, smaller pants sizes, choosing fruit over sugary sweets.
