Jillene’s Blog: I Dream of Gleam

Written by on October 11, 2019

You can experience something really special and unique through the end of October, and after seeing it myself, I really recommend you go!

Olbrich Botanical Gardens has had this exhibit for the last five years and this year, they have even more at GLEAM! Gleam is an art exhibit with light-based installations throughout Olbrich’s 16 acre outdoor gardens. There are a couple exhibits done by local artists, and some from around the world.

It’s hard to choose a favorite, you’ll realize that when you go. The piece I spent the most time gazing at was the “Double Helix II,” a 90 foot long piece, on the Great Lawn. When you stand back, you wonder how it takes its shape – is it the wind? Is it on a mechanical pulley? Get closer and you’ll see how it works. There were a few people who laid on the lawn below the Double Helix to get a spectacular view.

I also really loved the “Sphere of Influence.” It included music with it’s ‘performance,’ and it was pretty fun seeing a group of strangers encouraging each other to dance, while clapping along to the songs.

If you want to see some pictures I took from Gleam, they are below and there are more pictures and some videos on my Facebook page.

Gleam runs through October 26 at Olbrich. Find more info by clicking here, and let me know what you think when you go! I hope you love it as much as I did!
