Pickin' Up Chicks

This happens to me every spring. My mind turns to chicks. And when I want to pick up chicks, I head to Waterloo. That's right. I am always assured of getting the kind of chicks I want in Waterloo.

Now, before you get your sensibilities in an uproar, you should know I am talking about real chicks … as in chickens. This spring we got 30 chicks. Most of them are those cool Easter Eggers. They lay those awesome blue and pink eggs, thus the name. Funny - every time we get a new flock of chickens, the old girls give me that "hey what up" look.

Circle of life ladies.

Time to Spring into Action on Yard Projects

I know that my opinion is not unique when I say that I am soooo glad that we are finally putting the winter of our discontent in the rear view mirror. I can't remember a time when I was so glee-filled to get outside in 45 degree weather with a howling wind. At any rate, I think it's safe to say that spring is in the air. The problem with that is the mess left in its wake. All that stuff I opted not to do last fall is now still sitting there waiting. And even though I thought I was doing such a careful job snowplowing, there is a ton of ripped up grass to fix. I was forced to cough up cash for a "new" mower this year. Well, new to me anyway. My old mower didn't answer the bell this year. I've had it for 15 years, so I
guess I can't complain. Here's to sore backs, blisters and stiff muscles over the coming weeks. I t'll be easier to take this year considering what we just went through. Happy spring!
