Yesterday I was at the library in Monona. I have not been there in quite some time. They no longer have the old fashioned bath tub. I was really disappointed because it was for the kids to climb in and read. There were a few pillows in it ,and almost always a child. I'm not sure when they removed it, but I feel it was a great loss. Reading was so fun when I was kid, I'd have loved to have had that tub. Well, I got soaked in that down pour walking back up the hill to my car. I was off to meet Gregg (my son) and Sara to go see the new Star Trek movie (which was great), but there was no way in heck I was sitting in an air conditioned theater for a few hours with a wet head. Have you ever dried your hands with those ultra fast air blowers in public rest rooms? You know, the ones that spread your skin off your bones and dries your hands in seconds? Well, you should see how well they dry hair! The other two gals in there were laughing, too. Very much like falling out of an airplane, the air pressure blew all my combs up but it worked great!
Yikes-a-monda! What the? This, my friends, is the small hunk of frozen-solid dough I left on my kitchen counter, wrapped in buttered Saran Wrap, to thaw. That was Wednesday morning, the day I drove to Portage for a Mugs & Muffins delivery. When I got home, it was fine, just starting to puff out a bit. This (photo) is what I came home to after Magic Night on the roof top of Wilde Honda that night! I am not kidding, it actually frightened me when I switched on the light. This is the pizza dough I was thawing? An even scarier thought: Is this how big I will blow up if I eat the pizza made with this dough? I grabbed my camera so I could share it with you. NO one would ever believe it swelled up that big for real. I thought it was so funny that I couldn't even take the picture until I settled down to focus the camera. What the h-e-double-hockey-sticks am I gonna do with THIS? Turns out, I just had to fold it in on itself and let it rest a few minutes. It made an excellent pizza crust after all. Who'da thunk Rhodes Bake N-Serv could create so much levity in my kitchen? (pun intended!)
I wonder if there is a name for people like me who never watch TV? I realize that is a very tempting sentence to start out a blog...just asking for some snappy cutting comment, but it's true. I have NO idea what is on TV unless I read about it. However, I do watch a lot of movies. I can stop and start or shut it off whenever I wish. I just watched a great film I would recommend to anyone. It was a screen play written from a book that came out in 2007 by Paul Torday. Book and movie share the title, "Salmon Fishing on the Yemen".
Its main stars are Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt and an actor I had never heard of before, Amr Waked, (who plays the Sheik who is building the fishing facility in the Yemen River.) McGregor is charming, funny, dry and has a flawless Scottish accent where as Blunt is the perfectly behaved, brainy little fox that make story's love interest. It was SO refreshing to see Waked portray the Sheik as the divinely civilized, spiritual minded hero.
The movie touches on so many topics that confuse and irritate most people these days, but with such a soft touch you are glad to see the issues come to the fore! I highly recommend it. It's been out for awhile so you can even get it at the library. I'd give it 5 stars out of 5.
