My fear of spiders can be somewhat paralyzing at times. I know there are many who share my fear. I think it's fairly common, but I wish I didn't have it. I remember having a bug catcher as a kid and sometimes a spider would crawl inside and start spinning a web. I really wasn't afraid of spiders then. I remember picking up that jar and looking eye to eye at that spider and thought the web was pretty cool. I still think webs are cool. And I actually think spiders are cool. They are so beneficial to our environment so I'm not sure when, why or how my fear developed. Nonetheless, I have it.
There was a spider on my bathroom counter last night. It was so small there is nothing to compare it to in size. Half a pencil eraser, maybe? And yet ... this itsy bitsy spider FREAKED me out. It was shaped like a crab, I can tell you that. When I went to pick it up with a tissue it raised its front legs. This little spider was getting defensive and it made my skin crawl. Even searching photos of what this little spider might be literally gave me goose bumps. I appreciate spiders. Just not in my house. When someone tells me the spider is more afraid of me than I am of it, it's not true. I will never let a spider purposefully crawl on me …not even for a million dollars. OK, maybe for a million dollars. But I would pass out within seconds.
