The Apron Saga

Back on March 6, I posted a blog, 'A wrinkle in Time,' about how I accidentally had my favorite lucky apron sucked into the lint part of the dryer. Well, I now have my apron back! As my friends (who's pets and home I was minding) are moving out of state, they had a garage sale. This sign, along with my very wrinkled apron, were stuck right on the garage. It's a great keep-sake for me. Having a friend with such a great sense of humor is high on my list of "keepers." They may be moving out of state, but not out my heart. It's also really nice to have an apron that has seen some real traveling!

Chocolate Dimples

I've been going into Fosdals Bakery for over 30 years. I often write in there, and I've even written a short story about it. That story, called "The Mirrored Window" actually got me a writing contest prize at UW Platteville and was also my passport into the 'Madison Review' editors class at UW Madison. I've also been lucky enough to get to know all the employees. Not that long ago I was sitting close by the counter where the phone is located. The new girl, Jessy, had just answered the phone. She was the go-between for the customer and the gal, Lisa, who was her trainer. It was easy to realize the customer was asking about what was in the display case by here answers. "Oatmeal, chocolate chip, coconut macaroons," then she stopped and looked at the row of chocolate covered little cakes. You could not tell what was in them because they were covered in chocolate. She looked to the gal who was training her and asked with her eyes, "What are these?" Lisa said "chocolate dipped loaves." So, Jessy gets back to the phone and says matter- of-factly, "Chocolate Dimples". Both Lisa and I just burst out laughing, I'm sure the person on the other end of the phone had no idea what a 'chocolate dimple' was, but from then on there was no mercy for Jessy. Every chance we can, we say it just as 'matter-of -factly' as Jessy did. Both Jessy and Lisa are off to college now, but you can still make everyone who works there chuckle by asking for a Chocolate Dimple.
