Back-breaking week at our house. It was time to plant the flower gardens. Terri took a little time off to give me a hand with it, and Lizzy even donated some time to boot. It was still arduous, but it's done and it looks great. Didn't have the option of spreading it out over a couple of weeks. Terri's Mom and Dad are coming to town this weekend to use the Food Fight gift certificates we gave them for Christmas. It's become a sort of tradition with us. My mother-in-law Barb loves Tubbs Taco Palace, but I think this year, we're headed to El Dorado. Same southwestern vibe, but a bigger menu selection. Kevin Tubbs influence is heavy at both. Kevin is a genius in the kitchen, and plays a mean guitar to boot. If you ever get a chance to catch Kevin Tubbs and the Lonely Stars, do it. Fantastic alternative country. Sort of old school Austin. Lots of fun. Here's to summer!
Terri and I went out for dinner with some old friends the other night. We ended up at Alchemy on Atwood Avenue. This place is really a gem. The chef Matthia has a real knack at hitting all the high notes. I ended up ordering the special (I usually do) and it was knock down delicious. The salmon was perfect. I'm not exaggerating...PERFECT! He served it with asparagus and sweet potatoes. Every bite was an absolute pleasure. What a great little neighborhood joint. This is not your usual bar fare...but if that's what you're after, you're in for a treat. Matthia applies his awesome tastes and creativity to that as well. If you have never been, you should try it. It won't disappoint.
Oh did I mention the long and varied beer selection. They have all the local favs and tons of other micro brews on tap. It's fantastic. Hats off to the little off-the-beaten-path eateries in Madison. It's a tough row to hoe these days, but they rise to the occasion every time they open the doors. Get out and support your local restaurants, folks. We are so lucky.
