Today is the official Syttende Mai holiday, and, as I live in Stoughton, I have come to learn it is an even bigger event around here than in Norway where it's all about. About some 30,000 people arrive in droves to eat, see the parade, the dancers, the canoe race, the trolls and Percy will play the saw (he's darn good!).  He is 80 and knows all the old favorites. It's fun, it's crowded, the cream puffs are so fresh it's dangerous and the cheese curd line goes very fast.  The library has a pie sale that starts on Friday night on the river and goes on til Saturday at the library. The kids make trolls, the runs and walks are well-attended and mostly families come home from all ends of the earth to eat, drink and be merry.  It's mostly a huge block party with a dance at Mandt Park, but I personally like the added touch of Viking horns and blonde braids on whoever wears them. Ole and Lena jokes run amok and the play at the Village Players theater sells out every show, mostly poking fun at Stoughton and all its quirks.  If you plan to go, come early, parking is a bear!

We had such a nice time handing out those May Day goodies on Tuesday!  What a delight to find listeners who never thought we would show up and there we were, like the tooth fairy or Santa!  Yes, we really exist! I think I am most surprised by how many people follow the adventures of Joe the turtle.  I think I will see if I can get more photos of him up. They say people's pets reflect their owners...whew boy, a reptile that sleeps under my bed in his favorite shoes? What would a shrink say about that???
