Pat O'Neill's Blog

The Original Wit

We're all inundated with "self-help" tips, but I think this guy writes good stuff, and one of his recent columns has stayed with me. The gist is that you honor a loved one's memory if you embrace one of their qualities.

My dad has been gone a long time, but what I remember most about him is his sense of humor. Born in May of 1920, Eugene O'Neill was apparently a happy baby. I hope I inherited a touch of his wit.

My mom once recalled a Sunday morning, sitting with my dad at the kitchen table over coffee and the newspaper. She was reading an article about trends in the funeral industry. She asked, "Gene, do you want to be cremated?" He put down the paper and replied, "Now?"
