Linda Ronstadt wasn’t able to attend the ceremony welcoming her to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because her situation with Parkinson’s has made travel a hassle. She says awards don’t mean much to her, the joy of singing (not performing) is what drove her career.
When we interviewed her a few years ago on the Magic morning show, I was struck by how thoroughly unimpressed she was by “celebrity.” She phoned in from her living room in Arizona, no press agent standing by. She had just made school lunches for her kids. But when discussing the music of Gershwin or her favorite singers (Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Aaron Neville), she could talk for hours.
I liked her book, but don’t get it for show biz dirt.
