The phrase “Staycation” was coined in 2003 (by a small newspaper, “The Sun News” of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina) but I’ve always enjoyed the occasional “stay-at-home vacation.”
When you’re alarm usually goes off at 4:00 in the morning, it’s a treat to sleep in, do what you want, and stay up ‘til you feel like it.
We did our best to support the local economy, boarding our Golden Retriever for a night at Aunt B’s, then hitting the road to see the Antique Malls in Pardeeville and Waterloo. I found some good deals at The Shoe Box, then a favorite old CD at Sugar Shack.
And we tried some restaurants we hadn’t been to, good sandwiches at a place call Which Wich?, Mediterranean at Bunky’s, and great Cajun food at Liliana’s, where I left a hefty tip for the Hanson Family Jazz Band, featuring Magic organist Dave.
