What's your definition of work out?

Your definition of ‘fun’ is definitely different than your sister’s or your neighbor’s.  I remember the first time my trainer said, ‘We’re finishing early today so that we can have a little fun at the end of class.’  I didn’t think running lines was fun then, and I don’t think I ever will...but he certainly thought it was fun watching us collapse at the end of class.  Same goes for the word, ‘workout.’  That doesn’t necessarily mean you have to get dressed, put on the heart rate monitor and head to the gym.  You can get exercise by doing active things by yourself or even with your family.   Last week my husband took me to a fabulous hiking park with our dog, Luna and ended up on some pretty steep hills and rough paths.  We started out with winter jackets and gloves on and by the end were both sweating with our jackets tied around our waists.  We didn’t even realize when two hours had gone by.  That my friend, was a workout.

Q: What does eating 'clean' mean?

A: I just got the low-down on this from listener, Allison.  She said she and her husband, Brian eat absolutely no processed foods.  Lots of fresh chicken and turkey without the skin and as you can imagine, lots of fruits and veggies.  Quinoa, kale, spinach, fish, whole wheat pasta, oatmeal with cinnamon, eggs, flaxseed, nuts and coconut water are a couple other things that make the list on this way of life.  All together it's an attempt to take out the pre-packaged, frozen and canned food and get back to the days of making our meals and snacks from scratch.  And this doesn't take as much time as it sounds.  Allison says a snack she loves is plain Greek yogurt with some real maple syrup in it.  Way to go Allison and Brian!
