Anniversary Getaway

My husband and I have been married for six years as of a couple weeks ago, so to celebrate, we decided we were going to do something we hadn’t done since we had kidsā€”go away for the night!Ā  Now before you scold me for being a horrible wife, we do try to meet forĀ lunch during the week, and we always make sure to take time for ourselves once the boys are in bed and I think those are good things.Ā
Ā
We spent a total of about 20 hours away, and it was fantastic. We started out with pedicures. Yes, I talked my husband into getting a pedicure. He loved it. Then we went just down the highway to the Delafield Hotel. If you haven’t been to this magnificent place, you’re missing out. And if it had been a nice night, we would’ve walked to one of our favorite restaurants just down the road, Zin. (We drove, because that weekend, we had SNOW.)
Ā
Marc surprised me halfway through dinner when one of my college roommates and her husband met up with us. It was a night of talking like adults, laughing, a few cocktails, and memories to last forever. So yes, I know, it was way too long since the last time we did anything like that. It felt great.

It’s hard when you’re a mom to realize that sometimes getting away from it all and taking time for yourself, or with your significant other, actually makes you a better mom. It was exciting to see my boys and hear their stories about their sleepover with Grandma and Grandpa. I felt refueled and ready to hit the ground running. I remembered how hot my husband is. It was fun to get dressed up. I loved being able to start and finish a conversation without any interruptions.

When all is said is done, my heart is fullest when I’m with my family. But time away is definitely important. I’m learning that.
