Kathryn’s Blog: Meet in the Middle

I can hardly believe that I have lived so close to such an amazing restaurant and was unaware of the treasure I was missing. My good friend, Susan, lives in Shullsburg and I live in Stoughton, and she had a great idea recently to meet in the middle. I had such a nice time with her, I went back on my own to try out the New Glarus Hotel Restaurant which is not a hotel now but one fantastic place to eat. Sitting in wooden booths up on the second floor was fun all by itself, but the menu of traditional Swiss foods knocked me out! I love Rosti (Rosti is like hash browns that went to college and came back with a Masters). They prepare it six different ways! I had grilled veggies but I highly recommend you look up their menu yourself to see which you would like. The rolls were just from the oven, the salad bar fresh, even though I got there close to the end of brunch. For dessert, I had black forest cake that was so good! I was not surprised to learn it was made right there by none other than my waitress Annie! Kurt (with Annie, pictured here) was at the brunch table slicing one of the many meats they prepare. He is ‘The Man’ who makes it all happen there… what a chef! If you’d like to show off Wisconsin to some of your out of town family or friends, this is the place to take them!
