Just in time for the big game, Ginger Martin is sharing her “Five Alarm Football Party Chili!” Her recipe is below. . .
Ginger Martin’s Five Alarm Football Party Chili
2 medium onions, diced
3 cloves garlic, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1 large jalapeno pepper, thinly sliced with seeds
2 tbsp. olive oil
2 lbs. fat free ground turkey (or ground chuck)
1 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. extra hot cayenne pepper
1 tsp. ground cumin
½ tsp. leaf basil
1 tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
3 bay leaves
3 tbsp. hot chili powder
½ tsp. red pepper flakes
2 – 1lb. canned tomatoes
¼ cup red wine
1 cup water
2- 15 oz cans dark red kidney beans
1 to 2 cups elbow macaroni, cooked
In large skillet, saute onion, garlic and peppers in olive oil until soft. Add turkey and brown. Add remaining ingredients, *EXCEPT beans and cooked macaroni* and stir together. Transfer mixture to slow cooker or stew pot and bring to boil. Lower temperature to “medium-low” and let simmer for 2 hours with lid slightly ajar. Add beans and cooked macaroni when ready to serve.
Serve in soup bowls topped with grated cheddar cheese, sour cream, Frito chips, chopped scallions or any other toppings of your choice. If this recipe still isn’t hot enough for you (which, often it isn’t for me), I recommend adding a few dashes (15) of tobacco sauce in the pot and stir in before serving.
