It has taken me three years to complete this calendar….it’s a ‘quiet eye’ on some of the really beautiful scenes that my town of Stoughton has to offer. (One of those scenes is above.) Many people who have lived in Stoughton didn’t even realize these places were even there! If you’d like one, they are for […]

The last time I had a gluten free sandwich I threw the bread away and just ate the tuna salad. It tasted just as I imagined – like two pieces of cardboard. No, I bet the cardboard would have been better. I now have so many friends that are gluten free that I’ve been trying more things […]

My son Gregg and I met for brunch On Saturday at Holstein Kitchen, 101 South Main Street in downtown Oregon. It’s the perfect meeting place between our homes. What a great surprise to find out it’s the best place for breakfast or brunch – period! They serve what they call classic farm table comfort foods. I call it the reincarnation […]

It’s one of the nice things I can do with a blog – share my hobby of recording my town, Stoughton! This picture above is just one of those lucky-being-in-the-right-place-at-the-right time shots. It really is worth getting up at 5:30am when I can catch a moment like this. It’s the foot bridge at the start of the Yahara River Trail. […]

I do so love to bake, and it’s always a part of the fun to have on good ‘mood’ music. Rick Kuethe (pronounced Keeth-ee) has a fantastic CD titled Nebraska Suite. I play it front to back as many times as it takes to finish whatever I happen to be baking. Recently I invented a new flavor scone – sour […]

My friend Kurt stopped by Magic 98’s table at Concerts on the Square to share his specialty smoked salmon spread. I promised our table guests that I would share it. Bon appetit! Kurt’s Smoked Salmon Spread 1 package smoked salmon from Costco (aprrox 3/4 lb) 1 small tub of Philadelphia Cream Cheese w/ chives 1 tbsp […]

Simply Seasoned is not just a clever way to describe furniture that is just a little used, but the name of the new shop in downtown Stoughton where I am now the floral designer. Baskets, vases, metal urns, pitchers, ceramics and glass hold my silk arrangements. All shapes and sizes are created to fit any kind of budget. I’ve got a […]

Lovely, but cool That white of the moon Dazzling, but distant That white of the stars Sparkly, but freezy That white of the snow Polite and perfect That white of the flowers ~ by Kathryn Vaughn

Every time I drive by this it cracks me up, so I decided to share it! I do stop in almost every other day, but for household things more than clothes. Their air conditioning works real well, too!

There is this one little overpass by Coopers Causeway in Stoughton that used to have a sign that said ‘honk before entering’. Since you cannot see as you enter the causeway, the honk would alert you that someone was already on the way. Well, you can just imagine how much the folks who lived there […]
